Jug Island Beach Trail

Jug Island Beach Trail - hiking in Belcarra, British Columbia

Jug Island Beach is located at Belcarra, a short drive from Port Moody and Coquitlam. It is much less popular than other Belcarra trails, such as Admiralty Point.

I don't think any pictures can relate to the beauty of the Jug Island Beach Trail. Tall centuries-old pine trees and gigantic boulders, the greenery of the trees and bushes, the oxygen-rich warm almost-summer air, spectacular views of the Indian Arm and Deep Cove.

The trail leading to Jug Island is not stroller-friendly but can be easily tackled by toddlers and pets alike. Careful, however, although the trail is well-maintained, still depending on the weather it could be slippery and tricky. Good hiking footwear is recommended at all times.

Bert Flinn Park

Bert Flinn Park - hiking in Coquitlam and Port Moody, British Columbia

While all kids' playgrounds in Coquitlam, Vancouver and all-around British Columbia are closed, we have found an amazing wilderness playground right in the middle of a forest 10 min from our home!

Almost no people ever: we hardly met a dozen, mostly bikers or dog walkers.

In the time of mandatory social distancing, a park is a perfect place for your kids to get fresh air and run wild for a bit.

Quick word of caution: in the rainy weather it can get quite slippery, so proper non-slip hiking shoes for your kids are important for everyone's safety.

One of our recent most fun finds is the Woodland Walk up the Pinecone Burke Provincial Park, which leads you to scenic Sawblade Falls.
