HOW TO USE OUR SHEETS:

Go outside and discover! Take photos, make sketches, take measurements.

Once you are ready to document your discoveries, use our Nature Discovery Collection sheets:

STEP 1:

Print as many sheets as you might need**. Best to print in colour and double-sided using thicker grade paper!

STEP 2:

Attach a photo or simply sketch your finding. For plants (leaves and flowers), you may also glue-in a press-preserved specimen.

STEP 3:

Record the date and the location where you found it. Add measurements, descriptions, and any special notes.

STEP 4:

Look up the common name of your finding. You can even learn the proper Latin name used by real scientists!

STEP 5:

Add sheets to a ring-binder. You can add more sheets, or mix and match your collections between a variety of ring-binders!

Here is what you'll need for the best results:

  • Printer and printing paper. Choose thinker grade paper so it lasts longer!
  • Notepad, pencil or pen
  • Magnifying glass and binoculars
  • Small container for specimen collection
  • Camera (or phone camera) to take photos
  • Measuring tape
  • Scissors
  • Glue or sticky tape
  • Internet connection (to look-up your discoveries)
  • Ring-binder and 3-hole punch to store your collections!

NOTE: Younger kids may need the help of a parent or a teacher to ensure the activity is performed in a safe manner. Never approach wild animals, birds, or insects - it is best to take pictures of them from a safe distance. Always wash your hands right after you touched plants or mushrooms.

Enjoy!
