Cypress Falls Park

Cypress Falls Park - Easy Hiking Trails in Vancouver, Crowd-free, Social Distancing Outdoors

Cypress Falls Park, not to be mixed with Cypress Mountain, is located in West Vancouver and is easily accessible right off the 99 highway.

Just as at Capilano or Lynn Valley, you'll find yourself in one of the most impressive Pacific NorthWest forests. The difference is – you can actually enjoy the serenity of the wilderness with almost no interruptions. Cypress Falls is much less known and not a touristy hiking destination that West Vancouver locals keep in secret. Spectacular Vancouver waterfalls, some of the biggest and oldest trees in British Columbia, and a Secret Car Wreck mystery to solve!

The hike is NOT stroller-accessible but is dogs-friendly. Depending on the season, however, you may not be able to do the full loop. If the weather conditions are snowy or wet, we recommend you only stick to the west-side half-loop, and everyone should wear proper non-slip hiking shoes, including your kids.

Perfect for complying with social distancing requirements over the flu-season.

Jug Island Beach Trail

Jug Island Beach Trail - Easy Hiking Trails in Vancouver, Crowd-free, Social Distancing Outdoors

Jug Island Beach hiking trail is located at Belcarra, a short drive from Port Moody and Coquitlam.

It is much less popular than other Belcarra trails, such as Admiralty Point.

Park at the far end of the parking lot – North East corner is closest to the trailhead. This way you will avoid all the unnecessary interactions with other visitors and can access the trail crowd-free.

I don't think any pictures can relate to the beauty of the Jug Island Trail. Tall centuries-old pine trees and gigantic boulders, the greenery of the trees and bushes, the oxygen-rich warm almost-summer air, spectacular views of the Indian Arm and Deep Cove.

Careful, however, although the trail is well-maintained, still depending on the weather it could be slippery and tricky. Good hiking footwear is recommended at all times. Jug Island Beach hiking trail is NOT stroller-friendly, but can be easily tackled by toddlers and pets alike.

Sasamat Lake Trail Loop

Sasamat Lake, located near Port Moody, is one of the most peaceful, serene, clearest lakes in BC. The air is so fresh, and the energy of the place so strong, you get instantly recharged and rejuvenated the minute you step out of your car!

On a good summer day the famous White Pine Beach is always crowded. No wonder, as Sasamat Lake has the warmest water we've experienced at a BC lake so far, and the lake boasts one of the softest sandy beaches found near Vancouver.

October through April, however, both the beach and the trail around the lake is almost abandoned. We've visited mid-March and haven't seen more than a dozen others on the trail.

With this post we tried to give our fellow outdoor enthusiasts a bit of hope!

You CAN be outdoors and abide by social distancing recommendations at the same time. Just make sure to jump into your car and go directly to the trailhead, no stopping anywhere on your way in and out – and you got a winner! A common sense, but I will mention it here anyways, go outside only if you feel well with no symptoms of any illness.
