Directions
If you are heading to Derby Reach Regional Park from Coquitlam Centre, it will take you about 30 minutes to get to the trail-head to start on this fun bike route.
.
There are three options you have to access this easy bike route.
- You can start at Derby Reach Edgewater Bar Camping Site, take the Edge Farm Trail / Trans Canada Trail to Fort To Fort Trail
- You can park at Derby Reach Regional Park's main parking lot. This way you'll access the Fort To Fort Trailhead right away
- You can start at Fort Langley itself – the trailhead is right behind Fort Pub & Grill.
The way we like to do this Derby Reach's trail:
Our daddy drops us off at 10340 Allard Crescent Langley City (that's the edge of Derby Reach Regional Park), then he goes to park the car at the Edgewater Bar Camping Site and bikes towards us. By the time we reach Fort To Fort trailhead, he catches up with us. This way we can ride to Derby's Edgewater Park together and then enjoy a nice picnic at the day-use area (next to where the car is parked) before we head home.
We've done the full trail starting at both Fort Langley and Derby Reach Regional Park a few times as well.
.
Edge Farm / Fort To Fort Bike Route – Quick Facts
Both the Edgewater Bar Campsite and Derby Park have plenty of parking and bio-washrooms available at the parking lot.
If you start at Fort Langley – you could use Fort Bar & Grill facilities. Parking is limited, as Fort Langley is a popular family-friendly travel destination. Most parking is either paid or has a limit of 30 min to 2 hours maximum. We do not recommend starting off on this side.
.
The Fort To Fort Trail & Bike Route
The whole distance of Fort To Fort Trail is about 3.5 km. If you include Edge Farm Trail of the Langley's Derby Reach Regional Park into your bike route, or if you'd like to ride this easy bike trail to-and-back – the distance will double to about 7 km.
The whole trail – both Edge Farm and Fort To Fort parts of it – is 100% stroller & wheelchair accessible. It has an even gravel paving and is well maintained.
What makes this Langley bike route one of the best sites to teach your children how to bike? Unlike heavily-trafficked Vancouver and Burnaby easy bike routes, there are very few people you'll find on this trail.
The trail takes you through the mix of beautiful leafy forest & wildflower fields. Should you decide to stop along the way and climb one of the riverside hills – you can enjoy spectacular views of Fraser River. You'll find many apple trees along the path, and endless blackberry bushes. In July and August – both are perfectly edible and delicious!
.
You can watch wildlife while on the ride! We've spotted a few squirrels, beautiful butterflies and dragonflies, a beautiful horse at a nearby farmhouse.. and a pair of bald eagles made a breathtaking display of top-notch aviation skills, what it seemed like, specifically for us!
Although some parts of the bike route go along the main road, don't worry it is perfectly safe for kids as there is a road separator.
