Glamping is slowly but surely becoming one of the most popular types of vacations in 2020. In light of the coronavirus crisis, people are having to think outside the box when it comes to planning their 2020 vacation. As a result, all the best glamping spots are rapidly booking up both in Canada and the USA! There are a couple of reasons for this trend.

Many people are seeking out vacations that:

• Adhere to social distancing guidelines
• Don’t require flying
• Allow them to completely disconnect from the stresses of modern-day life
• Provide comfortable turn-key experience

If you’re one of the adventure families looking for the above factors, glamping is a no brainer. Moreover, if you live near the border between Canada and USA, you may even be able to add international travel to the mix too (when the borders are officially open again that is).

Let’s start off with some of the best glamping spots on the Canadian side of the border.

Ucluelet, British Columbia

Ucluelet in Vancouver Island is the perfect glamping destination in Canada for those looking to combine hiking with lazy days on the beach.

The name Ucluelet directly translates to “people of the safe harbor” in the indigenous Nuu-chah-nulth language. And glamping here means you are close to one of the most stunning beaches in Beautiful British Columbia Tofino’s Long Beach, and Canada’s Pacific Rim National Park. 

There are many oceanfront glamping spots to choose from here, just like the rustic tent above. The main selling point of a lot of the glamping spots in Ucluelet is private beach access – especially useful when trying to social distance on your Vancouver Island road-trip.

New Denver, British Columbia

New Denver is a tiny village in southeastern British Columbia. With a population of less than 500, this Canadian destination is about as remote a glamping trip you can take.

New Denver is situated along the shore of the Slocan Lake. The breathtaking lake is surrounded by British Columbia’s famously beautiful scenery and some truly unique Canadian glamping accommodations. For instance, you can stay in these modern dome rentals that look like something straight out of J.R Tolkien’s imagination. In our opinion, this is the best glamping spot for families with kids as those “hobbit houses” bring additional magic into the whole experience!

New Denver and The Shire like accommodation are a winning combo for a glamping spot close to Canada and USA border.

Madeira Park, British Columbia

Madeira Park is another Canadian glamping gem, located on the Sunshine Coast. The area – in particular Ruby Lake – is extremely popular with active outdoor-loving family travelers. It offers all the fun activities that you would expect from a lake destination, as well as access to the ocean, and hiking trails dotted around the surrounding BC provincial parks. 

However, despite its popularity, it’s still possible to find a moment of tranquility in Madeira Park. There are many hidden glamping spots in the surrounding woodland area (like the one above).

Kootenay National Park, British Columbia

Kootenay Park in Canada really has it all as a glamping destination: mountainous views, canyons, and natural hot springs to soak your weary joints in at the end of the day. 

The last in our list from British Columbia may be one of the most well-rounded and well suited Canadian glamping for an adventurous family. If this is your children’s first summer camp, you can be sure they will have a good time here.

Rossport, Ontario

Rossport is considered as the lakeside destination you have to stop at if you’re ever taking the famous, picturesque drive along the North shore of Lake Superior. 

However, in these crazy times, this Canadian glamping spot is also one of the most remote getaways for the trials and tribulations of the modern world, which makes it one of the best couples retreats you can find in Ontario. The sleepy village has a population of 65 and is, of course, right on the doorstep of Lake Superior. The area has great fishing and is also renowned for having great places to grab a bite. 

With all these qualities, luxury glamping destinations are starting to become more popular in and around the village. For example, this raised yurt allows you to take in Rossport’s views in style. If you’re looking to head south of the Canadian and the USA border, here are five of the best glamping spots your family can check out.

Columbia Falls, Montana

Columbia Falls is otherwise known as “the gateway to the glacier”. This is due to its close proximity to the Glacier National Park in Montana.

The destination itself is a good base for those dipping their toes into glamping. It’s not too far from the amenities of the city, but it’s still beautiful and remote enough for you to get a nice slice of nature.

This luxury tent is situated in the woods of Columbia Falls, and is right by a nearby nature trail which is perfect for hiking or cross country skiing. Most importantly, however, if you’re staying in Columbia Falls, you’ve got to take a trip to Glacier Park.

Somers, Montana

Like Columbia Falls, Somers is located on the shore of Flathead Lake. However, with a population of just over 1000, Somers is the more remote glamping destination of these two USA spots. Yet, it’s also home to some truly breathtaking scenery. 

There are many luxurious glamping options in the area. For example, this Yurt is situated directly on Flathead Lake and has the capacity for five. 

There’s rugged mountain terrain to explore during the day and the seven-foot-high platform of this accommodation allows guests to take in views of Flathead Lake and Glacier Park. This USA glamping spot is a great option if you want to completely disconnect from your typical day-to-day existence.

Belfair, Washington

Belfair in Washington is only a 15-minute drive away from the Twanoh State Park and not far from Seattle. This has always been a popular camping destination by both USA and Canadian adventure families alike, but you can now find some beautiful luxury glamping spots here too. 

For instance, this safari tent; It’s got a king-size bed as well as bunk beds – this makes Belfair, Washington, an ideal family glamping destination. 

This particular resort also features a fire pit for roasting s’mores under the stars, outdoor kitchens, a resort shop, and an on-site snack bar. Phelps, Wisconsin

Though not that close to the Canada and USA border, certain areas of Wisconsin are really worth considering for your glamping adventure, if you want to truly disconnect from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. 

Phelps is one of those areas. Situated close to Boulder Junction, a lot of the camping and glamping options in the region have views like this lakeside safari tent. If you want to take in the remoteness and beauty of the USA Midwest, there’s no other glamping spot quite like it.

As well as being a truly comfortable and luxurious glamping experience, resorts have amenities and leisure activities for young and old. Moreover, there are multiple options on the lake to rent kayaks, paddleboards, and boats to enhance your visit.

White Salmon, Washington

White Salmon is situated in Klickitat County, Washington. This small city – with a population of just over 2,000 – sits right in the Columbia River Gorge.

Campers and glampers from the USA and Canada alike flock to this famous nature reserve to see the famous gorge. Like Phelps, this isn’t that close to the border. However, the gorge makes the journey worthwhile. 

There are a growing number of glamping spots available in White Salmon, such as this yurt. This 18-sided yurt has space for four guests and, as a real sprinkling of luxury, is equipped with a private hot tub. Wow, definitely the best glamping option for my family!

Although vacationing is a lot more difficult in 2020, glamping is slowly becoming one of the most preferred types of trips for all types of travelers both in the USA and Canada. Even for those that aren’t the outdoors type, glamping is a great way to experience camping for the first time.

There are many great glamping spots close to the USA and Canadian border worthy of further exploration as a possible family vacation destination. This means that even though international flights are kind of out of the question, you might still be able to visit another country this year once the border is officially open again.
