Prestige Oceanfront Resort Review: Top Secret Best Place to Stay in Sooke, BC

This is a detailed review of the Prestige Oceanfront Resort in Sooke BC by a Canadian family actively exploring the Great Outdoors with a toddler.

Prestige Oceanfront Resort Sooke, BC - the view of the marina

For most international travelers Vancouver Island is associated with the city of Victoria – the capital of the province of British Columbia. For BC locals – Vancouver Island is all about Tofino and its magnificent long beach. But what if I told you that there is so much more to Vancouver Island?! Just west of Victoria you’ll find a little town Sooke – a perfect “hub” for exploring Juan De Fuca’s south shore trails, Sooke Potholes Provincial Park and East Sooke Regional Park. Where to stay when in Sooke, BC? Long story short: Prestige Oceanfront Resort, in our opinion, is one of the best family-friendly places to stay you can find in Sooke, BC on Vancouver Island. This is our detailed review and honest feedback.

Prestige Oceanfront Resort Location

Prestige Oceanfront Resort is located on the south shore of Vancouver Island, British Columbia in a small town Sooke. It is about an hour's drive from Swartz Bay Ferry terminal and the Victoria International Airport, 45 min from Victoria.

In our opinion, the location is quite convenient, as it is within a town full of little shops and cafes, and just the right distance away from some of the most amazing wilderness attractions Vancouver Island has to offer.

Better still, if you are into watersports or boating – Prestige Oceanfront Resort has direct access to the ocean and boat launch. So if you are still looking for where to stay when in Sooke, look no further!

Yes, there are many other places to stay in Sooke, including some amazing AirBnB options, but none can match this location and the offered amenities. Continue reading!

Prestige Oceanfront Resort Property

Prestige Oceanfront Resort in Sooke BC has everything we needed to relax after a day-long hardcore hiking exercise.  In addition to rooms, the resort has an on-site restaurant, a bar, a coffee shop, a pool, a gym, a spa.

Prestige Oceanfront Resort property is, in fact, quite large, while it looks and feels cozy – as if you are staying at a small rural Bed-and-Breakfast.

Prestige Oceanfront Resort lobby lounge and crystal chandelier

The shared lobby lounge area has few sofas, bookshelves full of books and board games, chess sets, and a few computers (aka business center) where you can browse the internet. The large crystal chandelier and the so common in BC drifted wood furniture create that special ambiance of a countryside home.

The second-floor deck rocking chairs do definitely add to the feeling!

There is a small inner garden with benches you can relax in on a hot summer day, and BBQ spots you can get around with your friends.

We are also pleased to report that prestige Oceanfront Resort offers options for guests with disabilities. Most of the property is wheelchair accessible.

.

Parking

Parking is free. There are two options: a large parking lot in front of the entrance, and an underground parkade.

.

WiFi

WiFi is also free, both in your room and all around the hotel. The internet speed is quite decent – we were even able to download some Netflix cartoons for our son.

.

Swimming Pool

Where to stay in Sooke BC wit ha swimming pool?

One of the best perks Prestige Oceanfront Resort had to offer to our family traveling with a toddler was the presence of a pool and a hot tub – I actually believe them to be the only property in Sooke with a pool, but I may be wrong. In any case, any time we expect to do a lot of hiking, whether in Sooke, Squamish, Kamloops or anywhere else, I always look for a place to stay with a pool!

After spending the whole day hiking the wilderness with our 4yo son Cosmos, exploring Botanical Beach and Mystic Beach, and coming back to the hotel absolutely exhausted – the pool and the hot tub was a pure blessing from the skies! Our son got instantly reenergized. And we all slept like babies! The next day the whole family was ready for the next big adventure!

Prestige Oceanfront Resort Rooms

Prestige Oceanfront Resort Sooke - hotel room with a bed and a couch

We’ve been given a King room with a balcony on the 3rd floor. The room was spacious, had a king bed and a pull-out couch, was clean and had regular amenities. But otherwise a regular hotel room – nothing special. Saying this, however, the room and the bed were comfortable to accommodate all three of us.

My mistake, there was something special about the room that I haven’t seen in many hotels: the bathroom had its own TV. So if you are relaxing in a bathtub, you can watch your favorite show. Quite neat in our opinion.

The partial view from the room balcony was indeed nice, but as always we’d rather spend most of our day outdoors! Too bad winter camping is not an option with a toddler… 🙂

The room amenities include a coffee maker and a cooler, but if you travel with a child and need a kettle or a microwave, you’ll need to bring your own or pay a ridiculous $20 per day for a microwave from housekeeping. Luckily the hotel staff is very understanding and we were able to get a microwave at no charge for our toddler with special needs when it comes to food.

Prestige Oceanfront Resort Restaurant & Food Options

We were extremely pleased that Prestige Oceanfront Resort has many delicious food options, including local Sooke seafood menu-options, available. In addition to room service, there is a full-service restaurant, bar and a cozy coffee shop on-site.

.

WestCoast Grill

Our friendship with WestCoast Grill began on a Sunday morning at Brunch. Reasonably-priced large buffet with excellent food choices, where kids under 5 eat for free, was a great start of our day full of adventures.

The brunch options on the buffer had even included eggs benedict – my personal win!

Unlimited bacon = another win!

We’ve been away the whole day exploring nearby parks, hiking and taking awesome videos (see our YouTube Channel), only to come back to the hotel completely exhausted.

WestCoast Grill to the rescue!

That night the restaurant had oysters on sale $6 for 6 – an unexpected awesome treat that made our day even more delightful. A wide local and international wine selection, and a long list of local Vancouver Island beer added to the cheer.

As to the main menu – we loved to see many seafood options. Their fish and chips were very lightly breaded and super-tender. Butternut squash ravioli – absolute yumm-yumm. Even our typically picky-eater 4yo son Cosmos was able to score a meal on a kid’s menu.

.

The next morning, another day for adventures, we have found two options for breakfast – a breakfast buffet and a la carte menu. This time we have decided to try a la carte.

WestCoast eggs benny was simply excellent. Of all of the places to stay in and dine in Sooke, or anywhere else, I will always choose a place that serves eggs benny!

The blueberry pancakes we’ve ordered for Cosmos where humongous! Ended up taking those pancake leftovers to-go and he kept munching on them all day long.

Frankly, we did not expect much from a hotel restaurant in a small town like Sooke – we never do – but, honestly, with the Prestige Oceanfront Resort restaurant – Westcoast Grill – we were pleasantly surprised.

Prestige Oceanfront Resort – Oceanfront

Prestige Oceanfront Resort Sooke, BC - marina - boats in the sunshine

Prestige Oceanfront Resort is, well, an oceanfront property. There is direct access to a pier and a boat launch right at its steps.

Whether you are enjoying a meal at a restaurant, or looking out your window, or taking a stroll at the pier – beautiful seascape views and fresh ocean breeze are guaranteed!

Do you know what else is guaranteed? The most unexpected and fun wildlife encounters!

So we went on a quick tour of the pier in the morning, as Cosmos loves boats, and look who we found! A family of seals curiously peeking at us from underwater. One of the local fishermen gave Cosmos a few little fishes and… To say that our son’s mind was blown away – is to say nothing!

Special Thank You to Prestige Oceanfront Resort Staff

We’d like to take this opportunity and say a special Thank you to some of the Prestige Oceanfront Resort staff who made our mini-vacation so enjoyable.

Stephanie at Sunday WestCoast Grill brunch was super-helpful and extremely attentive. She made us feel warm and welcomed. Thank you!

Caroline at WestCoast Grill dinner was very sweet, like a super-carrying grandma. She went above and beyond to accommodate our little special requests, including perfectly timing our main courses so we can finish a double-order of oysters! Thank you!

Danielle at the front desk was sincere and understanding of a family traveling with a toddler. She made the microwave happen – in no time and at no cost – so our little one can be fed his special meal. You know how toddlers ft. hotel food are? Well, Danielle had clearly shown us that she knows. We appreciate it so very much. Thank you!

Dear Prestige Oceanfront Resort Management: thank you for hiring and retaining the best people. It is not the rooms nor the amenities that make a hotel stay a wonderful one or a horrible one – it is how your people care for guests’ needs. I am extremely grateful you have an amazing team at your property! koodos!

Go Green Program

A quick note to say – we noticed!

Go Green Program is the Prestige Oceanfront Resort property's commitment to reduce its environmental impact.

In summary, if you are staying two or more nights, you can now choose to “Go Green” and forego their daily housekeeping services. This initiative will help offset our daily water, power, and detergent usage, thus reducing our environmental impact.

As an additional incentive to inspire the green choice, Prestige Oceanfront Resort offers little rewards. For example, we were offered (and of course accepted!) a $10 restaurant voucher.  There are other rewards as well – check out the full details on the program HERE.

In our opinion, this is an excellent initiative by the chain and we fully support it! Some of the other ideas for the resort management to consider would be switching to more eco-friendly housekeeping products – natural biodegradable detergent and dishwasher soap for example.

Prestige Oceanfront Resort Conclusion

Should you come to visit Vancouver Island? Absolutely!

What is the best place to stay in Sooke, BC? We can say now with full confidence that the Prestige Oceanfront Resort is definitely one of the best places to stay in Sooke when looking for a relaxing short vacation full of wilderness adventure.

PerfectDayToPlay family - a mother, father and a child exploring Vancouver Island

We traveled to Sooke in February for a Family Day weekend – booked Prestige Oceanfront Resort using our favorite Booking.com service – and could not be happier. The price per night was very reasonable. A bit higher than a typical AirBnB, but considering all the resort has to offer (specifically: restaurant with delicious food and a pool with a hot tub) – our stay proved to be an excellent choice!

We strongly recommend Prestige Oceanfront Resort to other active families visiting Vancouver Island. More details on the property website.
