Kanaka Creek's Cliff Falls trail in Maple Ridge, British Columbia Canada is one of our absolute favourite family all-season hikes, one of the rare snow-free winter finds and a great place to have a summer picnic. Of all things to do in Maple Ridge, we consider Kanaka Creek Park to be on our list of top-secret locations. Regardless when you visit, there are hardly ever any people around. You can enjoy stress-free parking, always available picnic tables, the shade of humongous trees along the creek, a refreshing swim in the clean creek waters, quietude and fresh air of the trail, and the reward of one stunning waterfall – Cliff Falls – at the end of your walk.

The way we found this Maple Ridge hike, was kinda funny. One summer morning last year we hit the closed gates at Golden Ears as the park was full… Well, Kanaka Creek Park was less than 15 min away – we came, we parked, we picnicked, we threw rocks into the creek, sunbathed and had fun watching the little fishes at the Kanaka Creek Fish Hatchery. Total weekend saviour!

Cliff Falls Canyon Trail starts just across the street from the Kanaka Creek Watershed Stewardship Center and Bell-Irving Hatchery aka “Kanaka Creek Fish Hatchery” parking lot.

As an alternative you could come from the other side – park at 21st and 116th and have a quick 10 min hike to the Cliff Falls. There are few picnic tables around that side of the park too + a bio-washroom. We prefer to park at and hike from the Fish Hatchery though.. as it is simply beautiful!
