We are indeed lucky to live in the most beautiful place – Vancouver, Canada. What do you know about Vancouver? That’s right – it rains a lot. ..and we have access to the ocean. Canadian waters of the Pacific are not as inviting as in Hawaii however. Wet feet = freezing feet = coughs and colds guaranteed. But try to explain that a 3yo who wants to have fun all year round! Instead of keeping our toddler away though, we are always on the hunt for the next pair of waterproof and weather-proof, yet comfortable outdoor gear, constantly scavenge toddler rain boots reviews. What are the best rain boots for toddlers? We think we've found our top choice brand for kids natural rubber rain boots! KidORCA!

Keeping our child's feet warm is the key to keeping him healthy. That is why good, sturdy, comfortable and leak-proof boots are always our top priority. Most rain boots we’ve tried however were too short. One decent splash or a wave was enough to get the water inside and send us changing. At some point, I’ve started carrying a full change of clothing in my backpack including a spare pair of rain boots! That’s right. Rainboot brands were making a living off our family alone! haha

KidORCA Rain Boots

We got curious when KidORCA approached us to try their rain boots. KidORCA rain boots have a foldable gaiter, that could be pulled up all the way over the knee and it could be fixed with over the knee toggle. We’ve never seen this design before anywhere else. Of course, we said yes! 

In addition, we were even more excited and happy to learn that the gaiter fabric was waterproof but breathable and that the inside of the boot was lined with polar fleece – our son’s feet will definitely be warm!

Love the fact that KidORCA offers half-sizes and a sizing chart on their website. It was so easy to order just the right size! Every mother everywhere would agree with me now: ordering online is always risky, but going shoe-shopping to the store with a toddler and get him to sit and try on shoes is a total nightmare… When our pair arrived, I was a bit nervous, but Cosmos’ foot slipped right through and the size was perfect!

First experience

Cosmos loved the boots as soon as they came out of the box. The sky blue colour was simply beautiful! And the cute little orcas on the boots not only added to the fun adventure mood but also helped our son learn to pull the right boot onto the right foot! If orcas are looking at each other – you all are ready to go and play!

We first field-tested the boots at our favourite ocean beach. Cosmos had a total blast playing with waves and with our friends’ dog with nothing to hold him back! I did call him a few times just to check on his feet – dry and warm! Hurray!  Imagine my surprise at actually being able to spend almost the whole day at the beach with no need to change?! Unbelievable! (Yes, you guessed it, I did have an extra pair of rain boots with me “just in case” this time too – happy we didn't need to use it!)

Cosmos did get too excited at one point with the dog and eventually found himself on his bum and swimming in freezing waters of the Pacific… Water did get inside the boot but from the soaking wet pants and not any other way. I absolutely loved that it was super-easy to dry KidORCA rain boots after washing them: all I had to do is to hang them upside-down overnight.

We had a few other opportunities to go out wearing the boots – both on the street and in the forest. I am happy to report, the boot proved to be leak-proof, even at the seam where the boot is connected with the gaiter.
