Sky Pilot Suspension Bridge @ Sea to Sky

Sky Pilot - Sea To Sky Gondola near Squamish - top instagrammable place to visit near Vancouver

.

Sky Pilot Suspension Bridge is definitely one of the leaders in our chart of Top Most Beautiful Suspension Bridges in Canada, and in the whole world frankly. It is located at the top of Sea to Sky Gondola near Squamish. This EPIC landmark should be at the top of the list of places to visit near Vancouver for anyone who lives here and who travels to British Columbia.

The Sea-to-Sky and its suspension bridge are popular with tourists and locals all year round. The picture above was taken on Christmas Day 2018. The best time to visit to take beautiful pictures is definitely offseason on a weekday, either the very first thing in the morning, or at the very evening right before the sundown.

Sky Pilot Suspension Bridge Directions: Sea to Sky Gondola, 36800 BC-99, Squamish, BC V0N 3G0

You can choose to pay a fee to ride the gondola up and down, but you don't have to. There is a Sea to Summit hiking trail you can take – 7.5km one way, 900m+ elevation (plan for about 3-5 hours, recommended summer months only). You can also choose to pay to go down or hike down.

Whistler Bungee Bridge

Whistler bungee bridge aerial view from a drone at 50m altitude and a bungee jumper

Ok, Whistler Bungee Bridge is not a suspension or railway bridge. It is actually made of metal and was designed and placed over the Cheakamus River in 2002 when Whistler Bungee opened its doors. Still, this Bridge is impressive, and that's why it is on this list. Whistler Bungee Jumping is the highest bungee bridge in British Columbia – over 160ft (50 meters) high!

Surrounding landscapes and natural wonders will certainly take your breath away. The Cheakamus River canyon is lined with ancient basalt cliffs that look completely stunning. While at the bridge you can enjoy stunning views of the valley and surrounding mountains with snowy tops, and the iconic Black Tusk to the North.

Did you know, you can access this bridge without a mandatory requirement to jump off it?! LOL.

There is a hiking trail crossing over the Whistler Bungee Bridge – the Sea to Sky Trail – that starts over from Brandywine Falls Provincial Park. You can actually make it all the way to Whistler this way – great eco-friendly Whistler activity to enjoy on a good weather day with many cool Insta-friendly lookout spots!

Squamish Rail ft. Stawamus Chief Mountain

Railway near Squamish - Stawamus Chief Mountain

.

Not too far from Sea to Sky highway, you can find a railway bridge with the stunning backdrop of the Stawamus Chief Mountain.

The railway is currently operational, so be careful when playing with your camera at this location. Otherwise, given the right angle, you can't see the highway, and the street wires can be easily edited out.

The above picture was taken in the first week of June 2019.

Capilano Suspension Bridge

Top Instagrammable Bridges - Suspension Bridge near Vancouver - Capilano Suspension Bridge

Capilano Suspension Bridge is probably one of the most touristy destinations in Vancouver and is on the list of places to visit for literally anyone. Rightfully so – both the park and its suspension bridge are simply stunning. The key to being successful in taking some cool instagrammable bridge shots is to come at the right time.

The above photo of Capilano Suspension Bridge was taken the first week of August. We came in on a Tuesday first thing in the morning, right at the time when gates opened and RAN to the bridge to take stunning photos before the touristy crowd started to gather. Tour buses typically start arriving after 9:30am, so there is a small window you can catch.

Lynn Canyon Suspension Bridge

Suspension Bridge near Vancouver - Lynn Canyon

Lynn Canyon is not too far from Capilano, and I'd say it is Capilano's somewhat less glamorous little sister. There are few neat suspension bridges within the park. The trails are very kids-friendly (not stroller accessible). There are much less people here than at Capilano Suspension Bridge park, and it is FREE to enter!

Buntzen Lake's Suspension Bridge

Suspension Bridge near Coquitlam - Buntzen Lake

We consider this suspension bridge at Buntzen Lake a true hidden gem “Photographer's Dream” secret instagrammable bridge site! It is located at the very far end of Buntzen Lake reservoir, you have to hike 2.5km Lakeview Trail to get there.

Suspension Bridge near Coquitlam - Buntzen Lake

Best about this suspension bridge site – there are hardly any people ever! Depending on your goal, there is a choice of two spectacular backdrops for your superb Instagram photos – the Eagle Mountain Ridge and Lakeview Vista forest. Both look very different – see the two photos above to compare – both taken in May 2019.

How to get to Buntzen Lake Suspension Bridge: Park at Buntzen Lake Park public parking. Hike Lakeview trail on the East side of Buntzen Lake to Buntzen Lake Suspension Bridge GPS anchor – the path is about 2.5 km and should take you about 1 hour.

You also have a choice of hiking along the lake or take the BC Hydro Service road. Yes, you still have to park at the designated public parking area, but if you have photo equipment to bring, you can roll it in a cart along the service road – will be much easier 🙂

.

Cascade Falls Suspension Bridge

Suspension Bridge near Maple Ridge Mission - Cascade Falls

We definitely love the Cascade Falls suspension bridge location. Same as Buntzen Lake it is a non-touristy little known site with very few people around on a regular basis. So there you have it – another Photographer's Dream Instagram location near Vancouver.

Hell's Gate

Suspension Bridge near Yale over Fraser River - Hell's Gate

I don't know what we loved better – the spectacular view from the tram, or being down standing on the Hell's Gate suspension bridge right next to the water and feeling the powerful currents. I mean, you can really feel every wave. Simon Fraser spoke truth “a place where no human should venture, for surely these are the gates of Hell”.

Photo-note: once you are on the suspension bridge itself it is VERY windy.

Suspension Bridge near Yale over Fraser River - Hell's Gate

Hells Gates Suspension Bridge Location: Park at Hell's Gate Airtram 43111 Trans-Canada Hwy, Boston Bar, BC V0K 1C0 and that the gondola down to the bridge and attraction facilities. The current fees/schedules for airtram are here.

#lifehack: Did you know you don't have to pay to get to the Hell's Gate Bridge?!! That's right! Simply park at the road pocket 300 meters before the Airtram location and hike your way down to the bridge itself – it is an about 1-1.2km easy hike. You can enjoy all the facilities for free – which the attraction welcomes you to do – and you can either hike your way back up, or take the Airtram back up for 1/2 price.

Othello Tunnels

Top Instagrammable Bridge - Railway Bridge near Hope - Othello Tunnels - places to visit near Vancouver

OMG. I am also obsessed with bridges. These are absolutely stunning. Thank you so much for this post : )

I love this post Alexandra, my partner and I love to hike and although I’m afraid of heights, these bridges look amazing. Such an original post! Will have to pin it for later!

Some of these bridges looks kind of dangerous, but so gorgeous. And nature around is just a dream. Now I have more places in Canada, that I really have to see

I had to PIN this for next time I’m out west. The only one I’ve been to is capillano and you are right…it gets packed! I don’t remember them having the treetops bright there but it’s been quite a few years since I’ve been there.

[…] Buntzen Lake North beach is where Buntzen Lake is connected with the small McCombre Lake. The two parts of the trail – Western and Eastern – are connected via a small but absolutely beautiful suspension bridge here.
