The best thing is: this unique Chilliwack museum, a spectacular photo location, a cool family and kids activity can be visited all year round!

Atchelitz Pioneer Village

Atchelitz Pioneer Village is a little antique town operating as a museum, located right next to Tourism Chilliwack and Chilliwack Heritage Museum. It is run entirely by volunteers from Atchelitz Threshermen’s Association. 

Atchelitz' collectors are mainly focused on collecting and restoring steam and gasoline stationary engines, steam and gasoline tractors, and machinery used for farming. But you can find so many other antique artifacts around…

The main building has all things from the past that you can see and touch – all perfectly restored – from furniture to dishware, from photo cameras to full-sized old ornately decorated carriages! One of the other buildings even contains a full-sized steam engine used on a steamship from 100+ years ago!

…and our favorite part! The cute little antique houses that form Atchelitz open-air village and farm museum are being restored with care “in the spirit of the past” to the very little detail!

If you are heading to Atchelitz Pioneer Village from Coquitlam Centre, it will take a bit over an hour to get there.

Plan Your Visit to Atchelitz Museum

There is no fee to enter. Atchelitz Pioneer Village operation is run entirely by volunteers and on donations. If you liked what you’ve seen, however, please leave a donation: one box is located at the gates, another at the main building welcome desk. 

Atchelitz farm museum is open every day, even on Sundays. But you have to be patient as, once again, the doors may not open exactly at the listed time – the “villagers” will get there when they get there. 

The main gates may look closed, but we found them unlocked. You can park in the lot outside, go in and explore the streets with antique houses as much time as you want until the staff shows up to open up the museum buildings.

By the way, if you are into the cute antique buildings and beautifully restored historical architecture, do not fail to visit the famous Fort Langley less than an hour drive away!

Accessibility

We are pleased to confirm that the Atchelitz outdoor village museum and main building are both stroller and wheelchair accessible! Some limitations apply of course: you won't be able to get to the second floor of the main museum, and some buildings. Otherwise, however – roll in!

The main building has bathrooms with good running water. You can also get drinking water on-site. No food options, however.

Kids Fun Activities

Strangely, you likely won't find Atchelitz Pioneer Village when searching for kids activities in Chilliwack. We feel it be extremely unfair! So let's fix it! Atchelitz is absolutely family-friendly, and is definitely one of the most super fun things to do for kids in Chilliwack! 

On our visit, our 3yo Cosmos was able to check out, seat in and pretend to drive almost every antique farm machine, tractor and even a VW Beetle from the sixties! 

Outside in the little plaza on the main village street, we found a kids' playground with antique toys to play with – real antique kids' cars and kids' tractors Cosmos was able to drive.

Cosmos absolutely loved the Atchelitz main building museum too! Inside it, we found a large railroad model and many trains are operating. Right next to it there is a model of how the model train tracks are being built – so kids can look inside and learn about the process of making model railroads.

Special Events at Atchelitz Pioneer Village

Atchelitz Pioneer Village is a popular location for antique car shows and antique collector gatherings. 

Overnight camping is available on-site for special events. 

You can also rent out facilities for your own special event: a birthday and even a wedding! 

Atchelitz Pioneer Village has its own chapel that even comes with a bell in the tower and an organ! Imagine how romantic it would be giving your wows in the antique setting with an organ softly playing in the background?… How much fun it would be to do exactly that when planning your wedding in Chilliwack?!
